If you’re like me, your sister was the very first friend you ever had! My sister was actually my best friend! She was always there for me, whenever I needed a shoulder to cry on. We would share each other’s clothes, jewelry and even our shoes. Hey, why not? That way you had twice the outfits to choose from! We listened to all the same music and always had someone to dance with! My sister and I even shared a bedroom. She had her posters and bed linens and I had mine, each on our own side of the room. It was a perfect set up and it worked for us because we could talk until the wee hours of the morning. Which, by the way, often got us into more than just a little trouble, especially if we decided to do it on a school night! We would often help one another with our studies and many nights I remember her patiently trying to help me understand some math problem I couldn’t quite figure out. I don’t think I could have done it without her! I loved having my sister there with me. I always felt safe, even though she was only two years older. There were times when we argued over some silly thing, but we’d always make up quickly. Our grudges never lasted long, and we’d also take up for one another, fiercely, if someone did something to hurt the other. She was always the first person I’d run to when I needed help with anything. She was my champion!
As we got older and our lives changed, she went her way and I went mine, but that really didn’t matter at all. Even though we each have our own lives now, she with her husband and children, and me with mine, we still talk with each other almost every single day, whether by phone or, when we can, in person. My sister may not always be at my side, but she is always in my heart. I love my sister! I can’t imagine not having her in my life. She’s still my best friend and I’m sure she always will be!
