It’s a very odd thing, I find, that my beautiful daughter turned out to look very much like her father, while my lovely niece looks, quite like… well, me! It’s actually funny, that people will often mistake my niece for my daughter and it’s been that way for as long as I can remember. When she was a baby, and I’d have her out, I actually got tired of telling people that she wasn’t really my daughter, so instead when they’d tell me how adorable she was, and how much she looked like… her mom… I finally stopped correcting them, and just said, “well, thank you very much.” It was just easier that way! Now that she’s grown, people still comment on the remarkable resemblance and I just smile and nod, because I know it’s true, only she’s a million times more beautiful than I.
Actually, I know that the reason she resembles me so strongly, is that she, like my daughter, strongly resembles her father. I guess that means that I look a whole lot like my brother! How confusing and amusing it all is and what FUN! The love between an Aunt and Niece is forever. It’s a love that’s as strong as it is sweet. I love being an aunt! Very similar to the relationship that you share with a daughter, a niece can also be a friend and it’s enjoyable just being together. It’s an easy, laid back relationship and conversation between an aunt and her niece is usually very straightforward and comfortable. A niece can easily talk to her aunt about anything; school, boys, work, her hobbies, whatever! She knows that she can talk to to her aunt because an aunt is always there to listen and offer whatever advice is needed, and she won’t overreact like mom’s sometimes have a tendency to do. It’s a wonderful and happy thing to have a niece in your life and it’s exciting to imagine all of the wonderful things she’ll accomplish in her’s! You know, deep down inside, that she’s a determined and caring young lady! Nieces usually have their Mother’s strength and their Father’s gentility, their Grandmothers’ artistic talents and their Grandfathers’ dedication and if they’re really lucky, they have their AWESOME Aunt’s excellent taste in music! What more could a girl ask for?!
