It’s a fine way to keep up with all the drama and all of the fun that everyone is having. While social media is an excellent way of keeping informed, texting is a much easier way of communicating instantly with family and friends. People are far more inclined to respond to your text, right away, than they are to comment or try to communicate with you through your Facebook account, especially when it comes to younger friends and family.
Anyway, this whole thought process came about when a friend of mine approached me and confided in me about a sad observation that she made, and has recently become aware of. In our conversation, she mention to me a strange thing that she noticed about her attempts at communicating with her friends, and even some family members. She opened her heart to me and revealed that usually she’s the one that initiates the conversations that she has with her contacts. Whether it’s to check up on a loved one or keep friends informed about a get together that she’s trying to pull off, texting has always been her choice of outreach. With her life being a very busy one, she recently realized that she hadn’t actually reached out to anyone lately. She’s been so preoccupied with her job and things at home, that she really hasn’t even thought about getting in touch with anyone, about anything. This, is how she first became aware of a surprising fact. She told me, “Since I stopped texting first, I haven’t heard from a lot of people in a while.” Now, I, of course, quickly brought it to her attention that, as she’s been very busy, it’s quite possible that her friends and family have been busy also, but it does make you stop and think. I believe that sometimes we all get so wrapped up in our own lives, that we forget to reach out to those we love, and care about, and it’s so important not to let this happen! No matter how busy we are, it’s absolutely necessary to stay connected. Being in touch with those we love, keeps us grounded. It gives us a sense of security and a feeling of belonging. Keeping in touch is important!
Now, with that being said, just because we all have good intentions of staying in touch, doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re always able to keep in touch, especially with those in our extended circles. So, when you find yourself with time on your hands, and nothing to do or no one to do things with, it’s always a good idea to have things to do on your own, things to keep your mind occupied and your hands busy. Take a look at some wonderful ideas for things that you can do, when you have a little ‘free time.’ Being alone doesn’t mean you have to be lonely.
